Athens Twilight Criterium
Started in 1980, the Athens Twilight was the first nighttime race in the
United States in more than 60 years. What began as one race with 40
competitors has since grown to offer 18 separate race and participation
categories, as well as 150 of America’s best cyclists competing in the
main event, the men's Pro Criterium, an 80km race around downtown
Athens. For the past 20 years, the Twilight has been part of the
National Racing Calendar. The Twilight is known for being popular not
just with racers, but also with its huge crowd of spectators,
consistently drawing in excess of 30,000 spectators and some of
cycling's hottest stars to the streets of the Classic City annually.
Athens Twilight boasts two days of activities for the entire
community, from families to college students.
The Twilight creates an annual festival of music, kid’s events,
food, and fun for all to enjoy.
